Our History

Picture
North Tower Band was formed from the remnants of the North Tower Quartet, an award winning four member singing group that lived in the North Tower of Old East dorm on the campus of the University of North Carolina, and a top forty group named Carolina Trace. The original quartet was Alan Misenheimer. Lowell Ball, Tom Ed White and Gary Dennis. They were joined by Anthony Tart, Bill Brooks, Doug Manning from Carolina Trace and Gary Dennis who was in both groups. The new band was only going to perform through the summer of 1978, but destiny called and the group added John Smith on bass and Bob Craig on sax and Larry Dean on keyboards. Alan, Tom Ed, Bill and Lowell left after the first summer. The original six full time members were then Gary Dennis, drums, Doug Manning, guitar, Big John Smith, bass, Larry Dean, keyboard, Anthony Tart, trumpet and Bob Craig in sax. Over 40 years later and now members of the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame, the band continues to perform with Larry Dean leading the group.
